From the early 1700s what is now know as the village of Invergowrie existed as four ancient farm hamlets, some evidence of which still remains.

Probably the most interesting ancient site is that of Dargie Church, now a ruin, around which there are many old legends and stories. One of which is that the Church was founded by a priest named St Boniface around the year 715. The site is reputed to be the oldest Christian Church north of the River Tay and is associated with the ancient Celtic Church.
